We are excited to announce that our Downtown Brooklyn Health Center (DBHC), located at 120 Lawrence St., now offers pediatric and gynecologic care!

In 2006, Housing Works relocated our W 13th St. clinic to Downtown Brooklyn to provide medical and dental care, job training, and case management services. DBHC no longer provides dental care, but has since expanded to include sexual health, behavioral health, substance use, and adult day health care services. Now, it also offers specialized care in pediatrics and gynecology.

For the first time at Downtown Brooklyn Health Center, patients from newborn to 17 years old can now receive wraparound care, including vaccinations, school or camp forms, and annual physicals. Drs. Melissa Bhikham, Elaina Ramos, and Talia Urdanigo will be providing these services. DBHC will become the second Housing Works clinic to offer pediatric care after our East New York clinic opened a pediatrics department 5 years ago. Once patients become 18, they can seamlessly transition into our adult primary care services.

I am thrilled that DBHC now offers comprehensive services that ensure continuous care for individuals from childhood to adulthood, without interruptions. It's an honor that we are able to support our community at every stage of life.
Emma Raymond, Health Center Director

In contrast, DBHC has a history of gynecologic care. In 2007, DBHC opened a women’s clinic to meet the needs of our surrounding community. The clinic provided services for almost 6 years, then was closed in 2013. Now, after over 10 years, DBHC is proud to bring back specialized medical care for women and individuals seeking gynecologic care, including annual exams, pap smears, reproductive health, and gender-affirming care. Drs. Melissa Bhikham, Elaina Ramos, and Talia Urdanigo will also be providing these services.

Over the past year, our team has been working hard to strengthen pediatric care and increase the variety of gynecologic services we offer here at Downtown Brooklyn Housing Works Health Center. This varies from routine pap smears and mammogram referrals to contraceptive services. I absolutely love that we are able to bring these services to our patient population, particularly in a community setting where these services can be difficult to find but are much needed.
